Nemeiben Lake to Missinipe
About this Canoe Route
Nemeiben Lake to Missinipe
From its Bell Bay put-in at the end of the road to Nemeiben Lake to Missinipe, this is a wilderness canoeing wonderland. Montreal River Outpost provides shuttle service for both ends of your trip.
Explore the north half of Nemeiben Lake on your first day. Some people prefer to find a Nemeiben Lake campsite on the first day. Another option is to camp on Little Crooked Lake or Rachkewich Lake after a series of portages (Six Portages Route). The last portage from Rachkewich Lake to Trout Lake has three options -620m, 1590m, or 2410m. A workout!
There are two options to access Nipew Lake from Trout Lake. The more traditional route is to the north through Stack Lake and Mountney Lake; the less conventional and more challenging route is through Crew Lake and Torranee Lake. Navigating some rapids is mandatory at this portion of the trip regardless.
Nipew and Hayman Lake are the gateway into Devil Lake. One way to get to Devil Lake -a popular option- is to portage around Sluice Falls and explore the rapids into Barker Lake before descending into Devil Lake. Another way is to portage around Great Devil and Little Devil Rapids. Both options are great and the likelihood of seeing more people increases significantly. Portage around Otter Rapids & gaze at the metal bridge across Highway 2 before finishing your trip at Missinipe.
A great northern Saskatchewan adventure!
